Decoded: Destination Wedding Dress Codes

Over the last few years, destination weddings have grown in popularity. These are celebrations that take places in another country than the couple’s home. We are so proud of you if you have been invited to such wonderful affairs. You have the chance to make your vacation by being a guest at a destination marriage. No matter if you are attending a Tulum ceremony or planning to dance the night away on the Amalfi Coast, one thing every guest should know before they leave is the dress code.

The Wedding Guest Dress Code ExplainedThere are currently seven standard dress codes for weddings: white tie, black tie, formal or informal with black-tie optional; cocktail, semi-formal, dressy casual, festive and casual. You may already be familiar with the meaning of black tie in your area, but what about a beach wedding? Or what to wear casually when attending a ceremony on a mountaintop?

The Destination Wedding Dress Code Explained

There are seven basic dress codes that most couples follow for their wedding day. However, it is important to take into account the weather and season when packing for a destination event. When it comes to dressing for any occasion comfort is paramount. Being aware of the weather and your dress choices will allow you to feel at ease. As you can see, there are dress codes that you should follow.

White Tie

White tie is the most formal dress code. This means that there’s not much room for interpretation. White tie is the formal dress code for nuptials, whether they are held on the Caribbean islands or in a Chateau in Provence, France. Your dress should be floor-length. Roberts-Rassi says there are no exceptions. For suits, expect tuxedos that have tails, a white vest and bow tie, as well as tuxedo shirts and tuxedo footwear. When it comes to accessories, choose pieces with royal and luxurious motifs such as Grown Brilliance’s Marquise Lab Grown Diamond Dual Row Dangle Earrings or Round Lab Grown Diamond Bangle bracelet.

Due to the strict dress code, you won’t likely be invited to white tie events in hot or casual locations. They work best in traditional settings or during moderate seasons.

Black-Tie

This dress code is formal, but a step below white tie. It is recommended to wear a floor-length formal dress. Roberts-Rassi says that depending on the location and the time of the wedding you may be able to wear a cocktail-length or nice pantsuit. You can also choose from a strapless, one shoulder, or long-sleeve gown depending on the weather. Menswear still requires tuxedos with a black bowtie, tuxedo shirt and vest, as well as tuxedo shoes.

Black-tie looks can be enhanced by pairing them with stunning statement pieces such as Grown Briilliance’s Diamond Halo Drop Earrings or Badgley Mischka PearLab Grown Diamond Lariat Tennis Necklace.

Formal tie or black-tie optional

Roberts-Rassi says that while this is a step above black-tie it doesn’t mean you should be confused by the “optional”. Although formal attire is still required, guests are allowed to choose from a wider range of outfits.

You don’t need a long formal dress. If you are attending a summer Maine wedding, you can wear a tea-length or formal outfit, as opposed to a tuxedo or floor-length gown. This dress code allows guests to wear their best fashions, but adds a little personality. The black tie guidelines will help you decide. Roberts-Rassi says that this is more flexible.

We recommend that you choose jewelry pieces that complement your clothing, rather than making them the main focal point. For example, an Emerald Lab grown Diamond V-Prong Eternity Band or the Oval Lab grown Diamond Solitaire Stud Earrings both from Grown Brilliance.

Cocktail

Cocktail attire has become a very popular style. Roberts-Rassi shares that cocktail marries elegance and comfort. This is your fashion-forward dress code. Minis are not acceptable, contrary to popular belief.” Bold and vibrant pieces are a great option for destination weddings.
